Oh this couple! I had the pleasure of getting to know these two over the last few years. We did a session in Banff in the winter and then another spring engagement here in Kelowna. Almost rounding out the seasons with a beautiful mid September Wedding in Naramata. They are such a fun loving, ridiculous good looking couple. Who balance each other out. And getting to spend the day with their amazing family and friends. AHHH just makes you love them more, such an incredible group of people, hearing stories and getting to know everyone.
This wedding came with one major challenge for me. I almost would say it was a nightmare come true. 36 hours before this wedding, I was cross country running and broke my ankle in two spots out on the trail. The moment I did it, I knew it was bad.
I wish there had been someone video taping me, because I went through all the emotions. ” Get your shit together Tara, you got this.” To a “Blubbering mess”, and laughing. Mostly because I was scooting down a fricken mountain on my butt with a broken ankle. All that went through my heads was HOW, ON EARTH am I going to photograph a 12 hour wedding day. Outdoor venue, winey, all hilly locations, mountain terrain, with a BROKEN ANKLE.
I AIN’T NO QUITTER
I remember making the call to Lindsay, after I had formulated a game plan to break the news that her photographer was DOWN…but not out! PEG Leg, what I lovingly called this torture contraption. You basically sling your knee/ankle into this contraption and walk on a peg leg. NOT comfortable, hurt like a son of a bitch. But I was walking and upright.
I am stubborn, determined and there was no way in HELL I was going to let these two incredible people down. I enlisted the help of two assistants. One to mostly second shoot for me and the other was just assist me as I learned how to walk again. And I did it. I was still main photographer, still directing best I could. Oh I fell many many time. I had groomsmen at one point carry me, because they all just felt bad for me. BUT I FRICKEN DID! So if you are ever wondering, I’ll be there no matter what pretty much!
